Name: Outdoor Recreation & Conservation Area Sites
Display Field:
Type: Group Layer
Geometry Type: null
Description: Outdoor areas used for recreation and conservation including parks, natural areas, golf courses, cemeteries, homeowner association owned parcels, trail parcels, school land, etc.
Description: In August 2012 the RLIS Parks feature class was replaced with the Outdoor Recreation and Conservation Areas (ORCA) feature class because the RLIS Parks no longer met the need for analysis of protected lands in the region. ORCA is a considerably richer dataset with more attributes and finer granularity of the features. This also added some complexity and has proven to be a bit unwieldy to use for cartographic purposes of traditional park, natural area, cemetery and other layers. To address this issue the Research Center has worked with the dataset to allow for extracting a new ORCA site feature class.
--Additional Information:
Category: Land
Purpose: This dataset is meant to render sites containingoutdoor recreation and conservationsareas, eg. parks, natural areas, cemeteries, etc. RLIS users have had difficulty using the parcel-based ORCA layer for mapmaking purposes. Labeling the sitename or bordering the outside polygons provided undesirable results. Being able to dissolve all of the parcels for each site provides more cartographic options. This layer is not meant to be used for analysis purposes. The parcel-based ORCA layer should be used for analysis.
Update Frequency: Quarterly
